MODULE 1
Module One serves as an introductory session for the course. It delves into the various asset classes accessible to investors and highlights the advantages of value investing as a prime option.
This module lays the foundation by presenting key concepts and outlining the topics that will be covered throughout the following six modules.
MODULE 2
In Module Two, you'll be introduced to financial statements and their importance in successful investing. You'll embark on a simulated 10-year journey running a fictional restaurant, exploring topics like company capitalization, acquisitions, and their representation in financial statements.
You'll gain key insights into company establishment, asset acquisition and depreciation, and the interplay between the balance sheet, P&L, and cash flow statement. This fictional business will be used in subsequent modules to determine intrinsic valuation, essential for your value investing journey.
MODULE 3
In Module Three, you'll be introduced to Intrinsic Valuation through the Asset Value of Equity. You'll learn how companies generate revenue and profit by acquiring assets using shareholder capital or loans.
Key lessons include reassessing tangible assets, like land, to determine their economic worth, and valuing intangible assets such as brands and intellectual property.
You'll then account for all assets and liabilities, arriving at a revised Equity position. This revised Equity, representing the cost to recreate the business, serves as your first Intrinsic Valuation.
MODULE 4
In Module Four, you'll explore the second intrinsic valuation, known as the Earnings Power Value of Equity. This valuation focuses on the future profits expected to be generated by the company over its lifespan.
To calculate this, you'll adjust the current profitability of the company and apply methods to discount its future earnings. By summing and modifying the future earnings based on specific guidelines, you'll determine the second intrinsic valuation – the Earnings Power Value of Equity.
MODULE 5
In Module Five, you'll dive into the strategic analysis of businesses. You'll learn to compare the Asset Value of Equity with the Earnings Power Value of Equity to assess if a company has barriers to entry or a competitive advantage, also known as the 'Economic Moat.' Understanding why identifying companies with a competitive advantage is crucial for long-term wealth growth is a key focus. You'll explore various methodologies and frameworks to qualitatively evaluate a company's barriers to entry and competitive advantage. This module will show that only when a company possesses these qualities can you determine its value using the third Intrinsic Valuation, which focuses on growth.
